Resource Profile
Small Business & Community Equity Development Clinic
Thriving businesses and community-based organizations are the engines for strong neighborhoods and healthy communities. Student attorneys in the Small Business and Community Equity Development Clinic work with founders and boards of directors to start, grow, and support organizations and businesses committed to building individual and community assets in Baltimore City.
Student attorneys gain extensive experience with corporate governance and counseling group clients, particularly cooperative enterprises. They draft a range of contracts and organizational documents. Student attorneys review lease agreements, memoranda of understanding, and other documents to structure critical relationships.
Often, student attorneys serve in a limited general counsel capacity for their clients. Through engaging with Baltimore neighborhoods, student attorneys consider questions of gentrification and racial and economic equity in development and gain an appreciation for their roles in building a more vibrant and resilient Baltimore.
